The Pointe Shoe Summit is a unique international gathering created for professionals across the dance industry, including teachers, physiotherapists, pointe shoe fitters, and medical specialists who share a passion for supporting dancers.
The first summit, held in Bellevue, Seattle, was an incredible success. Over three days participants shared knowledge, exchanged ideas, challenged long-held perspectives, and engaged in open conversations. It created a space to be both vulnerable and innovative, with the collective goal of prioritising dancers and their wellbeing.
Attendees returned to their studios and clinics inspired, connected, and equipped with a fresh outlook on how best to nurture the next generation of artists.
A Heartfelt Thank You from Esther and the Pointe Shoe Summit Team
Dear PSS Seattle,
My team and I would like to thank each and every one of you who joined us for the very first Pointe Shoe Summit, whether you were with us in person at On Pointe Dancewear in Bellevue or online through Zoom, so graciously hosted by Erin Madsen.
A very special thank you goes to Susie Butler, who connected our Zoom audience to the live Summit, filmed the event, and captured stunning photos.
This was the beginning of a dream come true, and I am so grateful you were part of it.
Our Purpose
The Summit brought together ballet teachers, pointe shoe fitters, dance health professionals, and dancers to share knowledge and open conversations that can change the future for young dancers.
It was truly inspiring to have such a small, intimate group. Our delegates in person and online, gathering in a safe space to exchange ideas and support one another. Some attendees told us it was one of the best courses they had ever attended.
Highlights From The Summit
Deep and meaningful Conversations – Exploring how teachers, fitters, and health professionals can work together for dancer safety.
Rhea Lwin’s Discussion. A fascinating look at the history and evolution of pointe shoes.
Hands-On Learning. Yes, we dissected pointe shoes with pliers and knives to understand how they are made!
Innovation. A glimpse into “PointeSense,” exciting new technology that has the potential to transform pointe shoe fitting in the future.
Generosity. Prizes from our sponsors, including Progressing Ballet Technique, The Library Aesthetic Dance Media, and Juon Pointe Mentoring. One special mentoring prize went to Elle Macy, Principal dancer at Pacific Northwest Ballet, who is recovering from ankle surgery. I feel honoured to be part of her recovery journey.
An Unexpected Highlight
On the last day of the summit , a mother and her 9 year old daughter turned up to enquire about a workshop specifically for young dancers. Unfortunately we were not offering the dancer workshop for this particular Summit, but to make sure she didn’t go home disappointed, I aggreed to complete a foot assessment the next day.
Her joy was contagious, and word soon spread, leading to an additional two days of workshops and assessments with local dancers and parents. Many of these dancers have since joined my mentoring program. It was a beautiful and unexpected way for the Summit’s impact to grow.
Moving Forward
We will be creating an online group for attendees so we can continue sharing, supporting, and inspiring one another.
We also received invitations to Brazil, New York, Melbourne, Mexico, and Singapore. This is proof that this conversation is needed all around the world.
For me, the greatest joy was seeing dancers, teachers, and professionals open up to new ways of thinking. I believe this is just the beginning of something very special.
Stayed tuned for the location announcement for the Pointe Shoe Summit 2026!
With Gratitude
My heartfelt thanks go to:
My amazing team – Camila, Michelle, Rhea, Georgina, and Lily.
Our sponsors – especially Bloch, who made the Pointe Shoe Secrets booklet possible.
Josef Brown (MDM/TLA) – for his steady guidance and mentorship.
And YOU – the PSS attendees, supporters, and friends who believed in this Summit and helped make it a success.
If you share the belief that dancers deserve proper guidance, care, and support, then the Pointe Shoe Summit is the community for you. If you have not yet been a part of the Summit, we warmly invite you to join us in 2026. Together we can continue to shape the dance world into a more caring and supportive place for young dancers.
With love and gratitude,
Esther & the Pointe Shoe Summit Team
