A pre-pointe assessment is not a dance exam but a physical examination and is very important to ensure a dancer has the necessary strength, maturity and technique before progressing onto pointe. Genetic background also plays a large role and should be considered along with nutrition and proprioception. Juon Pointe assessments are thorough, and therefore can take several hours.

Before a dancer goes onto pointe, they should be able to:

• Three-part core strength tests
• Do 35 single Leg rises
• A correctly pointing foot with good ankle alignment
• Be able to perform a foot cocktail consisting of 100 Metatarsal lifts, interspersed by various foot and toe exercises 
• Have a 90° Demi-Pointe and 180° ankle extension
• Be able to tape her feet correctly
• A perfectly straight spine with equal muscle strength
• Equal Turn out
• Equal leg length

These Assessments give accurate feedback as to when the dancer is ready. Our Assessments will include photos and recommendations for the dancer so she can address the work that needs to happen before pointe work can begin. We will also refer the dancer to other health professionals like Podiatrists, Osteopath, Physiotherapists and other health professionals

However, to go on pointe safely is only possible if the above list has been checked, mastered and achieved!
